       The Asian Scientist Magazine of Singapore has just honored five Vietnamese scientists in the list of Top 100 Asian scientists in 2021 for their outstanding achievements in research. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tien Son, senior  lecturer  at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, Dalat University is one of the five Vietnamese scientists honored.

       This is a ranking to honor scientists and leaders with excellent research, contributing to solving hot issues in the world, including the prevention of the Covid-19 epidemic, published by the Asian Scientist Magazine of Singapore. This is the sixth consecutive year that Asian Scientist Magazine honors the best researchers from countries across Asia such as India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, China, and Vietnam. The scientists honored in the list are all leading experts in the field with outstanding achievements in research, significant discoveries and national or international awards in 2020.

       Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tien Son was honored with the research work “General properties of semi-algebraic planning”. This is also the work that helped the Associate Professor become one of three scientists to win the Ta Quang Buu Award in 2020 – the most prestigious award in the field of natural and technical research of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

       Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tien Son was born in 1964 in Hai Phong. He graduated with a BA in Mathematics from Dalat University in 1985 and successfully defended his doctoral thesis in Mathematics, majoring in Geometry – Topology at the Institute of Mathematics, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in 2000. He has worked at Dalat University from 1985 until now and is a member of the Science Council of the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics for the 2018-2021 term. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tien Son specialises in the study of Geometry, Topology and especially the singularity at infinity of polynomial mappings. Recently, he has focused his research on the algebraic half-optimisation problem. Up to now, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tien Son and colleagues have completed a monograph book and published more than 50 research articles in prestigious domestic and foreign research journals.

       Besides teaching and research, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tien Son also has many contributions to serve the community as an independent reviewer of Dalat University Journal of Science. The companionship and support of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tien Son and other outstanding scientists are particularly important factors for the sustainable development of the Journal. His research achievements have been and will continue to be a great inspiration, contributing to the effort to improve the quality of Dalat University Journal of Science in accordance with international standards for publication, develop the Journal to become a forum for academic exchanges with high reputation in Vietnam and internationally in the near future.

       The fact that Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tien Son was honored in the list of Top 100 best scientists in Asia in 2021, once again affirming his outstanding achievements and important contributions to Vietnam and the world ‘s mathematics research. This is an honor not only of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tien Son but also of Dalat University – where the Associate Professor has worked for more than 30 years.

       With the goal of building Dalat University into a regional university, aiming for international integration in the field of education and research,  the University always respects the contributions of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tien Son and  scientists and lecturers of the University.  The outstanding research achievements of  Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tien Son  will be a great motivation for the University’s students, lecturers, and researchers to continue to strive in teaching and research.

       Together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tien Son, there are four other scientists from Vietnam in the fields of Agriculture, Biomedical Sciences and Physics who are also honored in this list.
