In the jubilant and exciting atmosphere to welcome the new school year and celebrate the 38th Vietnamese Teachers’ Day (November 20, 1982 – November 20, 2020), on the morning of November 13, Dalat University solemnly held the Opening Ceremony of the 2020-2021 school year, the 38th Vietnamese Teachers’ Day and announced the Resolution on the appointment of Vice President of Dalat University for the term 2019–2024.

On the side of Lam Dong province, there were the attendance of Mr. Tran Van Hiep – Deputy Secretary of Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee, Mr. Nguyen Van Yen – Member of Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee, Mr. Bui Thang – Member of Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of Propaganda Commission of Provincial Party Committee, Mr. Tran Duy Hung – Member of Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of Dalat Party Committee and leaders of departments of the province.

Attending the ceremony were the members of Dalat University’s Board of Trustees: Mr. Tran Viet Hung – Former Deputy Chief of the Office of the Central Committee of the Party, Prof. Dr. Duong Tan Nhut – Deputy Director of Tay Nguyen Institute, Mr. Nguyen Van Bao – Deputy General Director of Dalat Hasfarm. There were also Major General Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dau Van Nam – Deputy Political Commissar of the Army Academy, and representatives of universities and colleges in Lam Dong province.

On the side of Dalat University, there were Dr. Le Minh Chien – Secretary of the Party Committee, President, Dr. Nguyen Van Vinh – Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees, and leaders and former leaders of the University, leaders of unions, departments and all officials, employees, and student representative of the University.

Delivering the opening speech for the new school year, Dr. Le Minh Chien – Secretary of the Party Committee, President of Dalat University sent his sincere thanks to the Deputy Minister of Education and Training, the leaders of the Provincial Party Committee, People’s Committee, departments of Lam Dong province, Dalat Army Academy, universities, colleges, and all the guests. The President announced the honorable achievements that Dalat University has achieved in recent times, especially in the 2019-2020 school year, when the University focuses on standardising and improving both the professional and political theories of the management staff and lecturers; In the field of training, the University continues to stabilise the education scale with more than 11,000 students in 6 doctoral, 8 master’s and 33 undergraduate programmes, admission results in the academic year 2019-2020 reached more than 92% of the quota, the school year 2020-2021 reached more than 97% of the quota; The quality of education continues to be improved, meeting the needs of society; The percentage of graduates who have jobs suitable to their education is increasing; Research activities, international cooperation, journalism work have been developed and deepened, creating solid foundations for the internationalisation roadmap; The inspection and financial work are carried out under regulations; The University’s facilities and landscape are increasingly invested, ensuring the good performance of teaching and research tasks; Life quality of staff is improved; Management activities of the University are increasingly professional and compact, improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the apparatus.

During the academic year 2020-2021, Dr. Le Minh Chien emphasised that Dalat University will continue to focus its resources on successfully performing fundamental tasks such as: Developing the team, ensuring the stability and development of the University, prioritising the development of highly qualified staff, lecturers, and scientists; Accelerating the renewal of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes; updating new programmes and developing advanced programmes in the direction of modernisation and internationalisation; Promoting and improving the quality and efficiency of research and technology transfer activities in line with the University’s conditions, the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and the development needs of the society; Implementing the strategy of improving the ranking index of Dalat University in the domestic higher education rankings, aiming to be placed in prestigious international rankings; implementing communication associated with accountability. The President believes that all officers, employees, lecturers, and students in the university will unite and make efforts to strive and promote wisdom to complete the goals and tasks of the school year, contributing to the building and sustainable development of Dalat University.

Delivering a congratulatory speech at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education and Training, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Phuc congratulated Dalat University on its efforts to overcome the difficulties and challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic and complete the tasks of the school year, continuing to maintain the quality of education and research and transferring knowledge, serving the community, society, and the country. The Deputy Minister wished that Dalat University, a multidisciplinary university under the Ministry of Education and Training located in the Central – Central Highlands region would continue to focus on key tasks such as transforming comprehensively research and education; implementing university autonomy, training lecturers, improving training quality, accrediting education quality, strengthening research, application, and transfer of science and technology, promoting domestic and international cooperation, etc. to further promote the good traditions to continue to develop more comprehensively and obtain more achievements in training, applied research, striving to reach an advanced level on par with universities in the region and the world, making worthy contributions to the cause of industrialisation and modernisation of the country. In addition, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Phuc also congratulated the two new Vice Presidents who were selected by the staff and trusted to take responsibility together with the President in the new development phase of Dalat University. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tat Thang (Member of the Party Committee, Senior Lecturer, Head of Department of Personnel and Administration) and Dr. Mai Minh Nhat (Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Main Lecturer, Head of Department of Postgraduate Academic Affairs).

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Le Minh Chien – Secretary of the Party Committee, President of Dalat University, on behalf of the leaders of the University, sent to all lecturers the best wishes and expressed his belief that, in the coming time, the lecturers will continue to promote the spirit of dedication, solidarity, responsibility, use their potential and creativity to complete the assigned tasks, truly be a role model to students and contribute to the education industry in the country to fulfill their educational missions.

In recognition of the contributions of lecturers working and teaching at Dalat University to the development of education and training in general and the development of Dalat University in particular, the Minister of Education and Training has decided to award the medal “For the cause of education” to 10 individuals, award the Certificate of Merit from the Minister of Education and Training to 05 individuals of Dalat University who have many contributions to the development of education. At the same time, in this solemn ceremony, Dalat University also honored the new doctoral students, the new students who were valedictorians and salutatorians in the 2020 entrance exam.
