On the basis of the missions of the school year 2021-2022, in order to well implement the “Innovation and creativity in teaching and learning” emulation movement, on the morning of December 30, 2021, the grassroots Trade Union of Dalat University organised the workshop on application of technology in improving the quality of teaching and learning at universities for the school year 2021-2022 in the form of face-to-face and online meeting.

Overview of the workshop

The workshop was attended by Dr. Mai Minh Nhat – Member of the Standing Committee of Party Committee, Vice President of Dalat University; together with the Executive Committee of the University’s Trade Union and the Units’ Unions; representatives of departments, faculties and research institutes of the University; representatives of universities in the Emulation group No. 4 such as Quy Nhon University, Can Tho University, Vinh University, Dong Thap University, Tay Nguyen University, Kien Giang University, and Tay Bac University.

In the context that the application of information technology in teaching and learning has become a trend in schools, with advantages that help teachers improve creativity and become flexible in the teaching process, huge and diverse knowledge data banks are connected to each other, creating favorable conditions for the teacher’s lesson preparation; as well as creating a multimedia environment that maximises all senses of learners, improving the interaction between teachers and learners. However, besides that, there are still many difficulties and limitations in online teaching, due to the significant loss of interaction compared to offline teaching, lecturers also have to invest more time and effort to prepare a lesson and learners also need to adjust their learning methods to be able to absorb knowledge effectively; not to mention technological difficulties such as server problems, unstable networks, complicated registration.

For these reasons, the workshop focused on discussing the following main topics: (1) The role of Trade Unions and Trade Union members who are in managerial or teaching staff positions in promoting the application of information technology and innovation of teaching methods to improve education quality; (2) Implementing the application of information technology in teaching and learning, building digital learning materials and interactive digital learning environment; (3) Utilising technology to improve the quality of online teaching in the current context; (4) Sharing experiences and results of applying the University’s Learning Management System (LMS) in teaching and learning; (5) Proposing solutions to apply information technology to innovate teaching and learning activities in higher education.

The workshop received a total of 18 presentations with many perspectives, raised many problems and provided solutions to make the application of technology in improving the quality of teaching and learning at universities more practical and effective. Among them, 7 presentations were directly reported at the workshop along with practical and useful discussions and sharing on issues such as: Utilising technology to improve the quality of online teaching in the context of current situation (Trade Union of Quy Nhon University), using smart bulletin boards to optimise multi-dimensional interaction when teaching face to face (Faculty of Foreign Languages, Dalat University), application of information technology in teaching Chinese to students majoring in Chinese Studies (Faculty of Literature and History, Dalat University), IMINDMAD application in online teaching of History of the Communist Party of Vietnam (Trade Union of Division of Political Theory – Education, Dalat University), etc.

In the academic year 2020-2021, with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic across the country, Dalat University has been actively implementing effective epidemic prevention solutions and the motto “stop going to school but never stop learning”. The completion of the dual goal continues to affirm the University’s position. The workshop on application of technology in improving the quality of teaching and learning at universities for the school year 2021-2022 is an opportunity for Trade Union members and lecturers to exchange solutions, share difficulties and experiences from the process of applying technology in the teaching and learning process, towards the goal of constantly improving the education quality of Dalat University.
